The Author’s Guideline of International Journal of Advanced Community Innovation and Civic Engagement
The International Journal of Advanced Community Innovation and Civic Engagement (IJACE) is a peer-reviewed journal dedicated to the publication and dissemination of original research on the latest developments in innovative and sustainable approaches that promote social change and community empowerment. IJACE aims to foster a deeper understanding of both the structural and functional dimensions of interdisciplinary collaboration. Registered with p-ISSN XXXX-XXXX and e-ISSN XXXX-XXXX at LIPI (Indonesian Institute of Sciences), the online version of IJACE has been available since 2025. The journal is published biannually (February and August) in English.

How to Write the Title, the Name, and the Author’s Address
The manuscript title must be placed at the top of the first page with center alignment. The author's name (without academic degrees) and affiliation should also be centered directly beneath the title. There must be a two-line space between the title and the author's name, while a single space should separate the affiliation from the abstract title. Keywords must be placed below the abstract, arranged in alphabetical order, and separated by semicolons. The number of keywords is strictly five.
The corresponding author may be listed as the first author, second author, or any other author, as agreed by the contributors. The name of the corresponding author must be marked with an asterisk (*) to indicate their role. The communication regarding the article revision and the final statement will be informed via email to the correspondence author only. If there is more than one author, the author’s names should be written down separately by comma (,). The author's name must consist of at least two words and be written in full; it cannot be abbreviated (not be shorted). If the author’s names are only one word, it should be written as it is. However, in the online version it will be written in two words with the same name repeatedly for the purpose of the metadata indexing.
Manuscript General Guidelines
The manuscript text general guidelines are as follows:
- The manuscript is the authentic research result that has not been published yet in other publication media or publishing houses.
- The manuscript does not contain any plagiarism element. The editorial board will directly reject the text that indicates plagiarism.
- The manuscript that has been written under the guidelines of IJACE (in MS Word format, use this article template) must be submitted through Online Submission System using Open Journal System (OJS) on the IJACE e-Journal portal (HERE) choose only one procedure. Then, register as one of the author or reviewers in the “Register” bottom.
- The manuscript article writing guidelines and template can be downloaded. The template and the guidelines of the article writing are available in MS Word (.doc) format.
- The manuscript online submission can be viewed in the part of online submission guidelines below.
- The manuscript which is inappropriate with the IJACE writing guidelines will be returned to the author before the reviewing process.
- The manuscript should contain several aspects of a scientific article as follows: (subtitles as the order), (a) the title of the article; (b) the author(s)’ name(s) (without academic titles); (c) the author(s)’ institutional affiliation(s) and address(es); (d) the author(s)’ email address(es); (e) the abstract and keywords; (f) the introduction (which includes the literature review); (g) the methods; (h) the results and discussion; (i) the conclusion; and (j) the references.
- The primary section headings of the manuscript (Introduction, including the literature review, Methods, Findings and Discussion, and Conclusion) must be numbered consecutively using Arabic numerals, beginning with 1. The subtitles are written in the bold and title case format. It uses the left text alignment without underline. The next expanded subtitles should be written in the bold and sentence case format, It should use the left text alignment and the numbering format level two.
- The manuscript written in English with the standard language. The manuscript should consist of five (5) to twenty (20) pages including pictures and tables. The manuscript text ought to be written as this article template in the camera-ready mode. The article is written on A4-sized papers (210x297 mm), with custom margins as follows: left 25 mm, right 20 mm, bottom 20 mm and top 25 mm.
- The text of the articles must be in Calibri, 11pt font size, single space and one column.
- The words from uncommon or foreign languages are stated in Italic format. Each paragraph started 10mm from the left side border while there is no spaces among paragraphs. All numbers are written in Arabic numbering format, except for the new sentence.
- The tables and pictures are placed in the text group after the referenced tables or pictures. Each picture must be given a caption (Figure Caption) below the picture and be numbered in Arabic numbering format followed by the picture title. Each table must be given a table title (Table Caption) and numbered in Arabic numbering format above the table followed by the table title. The pictures attachment should be guaranteed that they can be printed well (font size, resolution and line space is clearly seen). The picture, the table, and the chart should be placed in the center between text groups. If it has a bigger size, it can be placed in the center of the page. The table should not contain vertical lines, while horizontal lines are allowed only for the important point.
Guidelines for the Manuscript Body Text
Title of the manuscript: The title should be informative and be written both briefly and clearly. It cannot diverse multi-interpretations. It has to be pinpoint with the issues that will be discussed. The beginning word is written in a capital case and symmetrically. The article title does not contain any uncommon abbreviation. The main ideas should be written first and followed then by its explanations. The article title should be written in no more than seventeen words. Check the use of capital letters. Do not easily use capital letters (including a method’s name) unless necessary (such as people’s names or proper nouns). Check the capitalization rules here.
Affiliation: Complete the affiliations with all their cities and countries. There is no need to provide any student/staff ID number.
Abstract: The abstract must contain 150–250 words and provide a clear and concise summary of the study. It should briefly describe the background and research problem, state the purpose or contribution of the study, outline the methodology employed, present the principal findings, and highlight the main conclusions. Where appropriate, the abstract may also indicate theoretical or practical implications and suggest directions for future research.
Keywords: Keywords should be in ascending order and within 5 keywords.
Introduction (Including Literature Review): The Introduction must briefly and coherently present the general background of the study and a critical review of relevant literature (state of the art), which serves as the foundation for establishing the novelty of the research. This section should clearly articulate the research gap, the originality of the scientific contribution, the main research problems, and, where applicable, the research hypothesis.
The literature review is integrated into the Introduction and should provide a systematic and analytical discussion of previous studies relevant to the research topic. Authors are expected to highlight the strengths and limitations of prior research to justify how the current study refines, extends, or advances existing knowledge. The theoretical framework, key concepts, principles, models, or analytical tools underpinning the study should also be presented within this section.
At the end of the Introduction, the specific objectives and purpose of the article must be clearly stated.
References must be cited using the APA (American Psychological Association) author–date style (e.g., Author, Year). All sources cited in the manuscript must be listed in the References section in alphabetical order. References should be presented in scholarly format and not in the style of a research report.
Methods: This section describes the research design and procedures employed to address the research problems within the context of community innovation and civic engagement. It should clearly explain the methodological approach, including data collection techniques, participants or study context, instruments, and analytical methods used in the study to ensure transparency, rigor, and reproducibility.
Where appropriate, authors may include conceptual frameworks, research models, program logic models, evaluation frameworks, survey instruments, interview protocols, data analysis procedures, or impact assessment strategies.
Results and Discussion: This part consists of the research results and how they are discussed. The results obtained from the research have to be supported by sufficient data. The research results and the discovery must be the answers or the research hypothesis stated previously in the introduction part. Any tables or figures presented must be clear, properly labeled, high in resolution, and easy to read, providing sufficient and accurate information to support the study.
Conclusion: This is the final part containing conclusions and advice. The conclusions will be the answers to the hypothesis, the research purposes and the research discoveries. The conclusions should not contain only the repetition of the results and discussions. It should be the summary of the research results as the author expects in the research purposes or the hypothesis. Please add the advice and future work in the second paragraph. The advice contains suggestions associated with further ideas from the research
References: All references cited in the article must be listed in this section. The references must primarily be drawn from primary sources (scientific journals), comprising at least 80% of the total references, and should have been published within the last four years. Authors are strongly encouraged to use references from articles indexed in reputable databases such as Scopus, Web of Science, and IEEE Xplore. Each article should include at least thirty references.
Guidelines for the Citations and References
The writing format used in IJACE follows the APA style. Ensure that all reference data are complete and accurate. Please refer to the official APA guidelines for detailed reference formatting.
Online Submission Manuscript Guidelines
The manuscript text must be submitted by one of two systems (the second procedure is more preferable):
- The document should be submitted by Online Submission System in the IJACE e-Journal portal HERE.
- Firstly, the author should register as either an author or reviewer (checking role as author or reviewer) in the “Register” or HERE.
- After the registration step is completed, log in as an author, click on “New Submission”. The article submission stage consists of five stages, such as: (1). Start, (2). Upload Submission, (3). Enter Metadata, (4). Upload Supplementary Files, (5). Confirmation.
- In the “Start” column, chose the Journal Section (Full Article), check all the checklists.
- In the “Upload Submission” Columns, upload the manuscript files in MSWord format in this column.
- In the “Enter Metadata” columns, fill in with all the author data and affiliation. Including the Journal Title, Abstract and Indexing Keywords.
- In the “Upload Supplementary Files” columns, the author is allowed to upload supplementary files, the statement letter, or any other else.
- In the “Confirmation” columns, if the data you entered are all correct already, then click “Finish Submission”.

Publication Flowchart
The Editor-in-Chief will ensure that the manuscript is in accordance with the focus & scope of IJACE (first screened). If appropriate, the Editor-in-Chief will send it to the editor section for further processing. Otherwise, the Editor-in-Chief will reject the manuscript and return it to the Author(s). Editor-in-Chief can give consideration to be sent it to other journals under Ar-Rahmah Online Journal which has the appropriate focus and scope.
Section Editor receive the manuscript and removes the author(s) identity in the script (full double-blind refereeing process). The Section Editor will send the manuscript to 2 reviewers who have the same knowledge as in the manuscript. If the decision of the two reviewers is contradictory, the Section Editor will appoint an additional reviewer.
The Section Editor receive the review results from the reviewers then the Section Editor makes a decision (accepted, accepted with correction, or rejected).
If the manuscript status is accepted, the Section Editor will send it to the Production unit for publication.
If the manuscript status is accepted with correction, then the Section Editor will send the manuscript to the author(s). After the manuscript is corrected according to reviewers' comments, the Section Editor will send it to the Production unit for publication.
If the manuscript status is rejected then the Section Editor will return the manuscript to the author(s).
After the author attends to the reviewers’ recommendations, the Editor-in-Chief will re-send the revised/corrected manuscript to the same reviewers to check if the quality of the revised manuscript is acceptable to IJACE.
Once the manuscript is accepted for publication in IJACE, the Editor-in-Chief will send a Manuscript Acceptance Letter to the Corresponding Author and also notifying about the possible date of online publication.
Production Unit receive the manuscript and ensures the Copyright form has been filled in completely.
